Nature Conservation Programs in Costa Rica
Volunteer programs in National Parks are of the adventure type. There are great natural attractions, different for each one of the six locations available and it is a chance to work side-by-side with park rangers, those who know each park like the back of their hands. These parks have been selected for their excellent approach to work with volunteers and opportunities for them.
- Manuel Antonio National Park
- Ballena Marine National Park
- Palo Verde National Park
- Piedras Blancas National Park
- Tenorio Volcano National Park
- Tortuguero National Park
Required skills for these projects: hard working person, creative, ecologically sensitive, willing to learn about new cultures and the most important one: enthusiasm. No experience is necessary but you should be in good health and have the ability to adapt to new environments.
Common tasks: trail cleaning and maintenance, teaching English to park staff, assisting park visitors, infrastructure maintenance, control walks around the park.
The selection of the project in question will be done after a presentation at the volunteer’s office in San José, where you will be explained the details of each project. Food and accommodation are provided in the park’s volunteer shelter, a symbolic daily cost of aprox. $30 will be charged in advance. Volunteers have one free day a week, which they can choose and use to explore the park or visit nearby towns.
