Academia Tica is proud to be one of the first Spanish schools in Costa Rica and one of the longest standing since 1986. We're a Costa-Rican run business with finesse for quality. This has been recognized with an Instituto Cervantes Accredited Center certification, the most important qualification for schools that teach Spanish as a foreign language.
Academia Tica is also an official DELE Exam Center. We have been officially awarded the title: "El mejor lugar del mundo para aprender español" or "The best place in the world to learn Spanish" by our former student Brian Reid 🙂 We take our student's comments very seriously since it helps grow and get better every day, you can read some in our testimonials page.
Spanish school locations
Coronado, San José
Coronado is the perfect place for full immersion. This is a beautiful quiet, authentic town just outside San José and set at the foot of Braulio Carrillo National Park. It has its own way of life with very warm people and a safe, relaxing environment. Most people will speak in Spanish maximizing the opportunities to practice the language.
The beautiful campus is located about 30 minutes away from downtown San José. This will let you enjoy everything the city offers for cultural immersion and fun. This is also great for cheap and easy travel around Costa Rica since the city works as a transportation hub for the whole country.
Jacó Beach
Jacó Beach is the best place to satisfy tropical urges, learn Spanish and start surfing (or improve your skills!). The town is dubbed “Costa Rica’s City of Surf” and is one of the most popular beaches for locals and travelers since it is the closest to San José and the international airport.
The town offers a laidback lifestyle with all the attractions and activities of a seaside city surrounded by natural beauty that you can visit and experience. The surf is constant and there are waves for beginners and advanced surfers as well. The Jacó-Hermosa area hosts national and international tournaments including the 2009 and 2016 World Surfing Games.

Our methodology
Groups are small (max. 6 students) and classes are conversation oriented and fun, because that is the best and fastest way to learn Spanish! Our program is based on the Instituto Cervantes’ Curricular Plan and uses the latest communicative techniques and a cultural backbone across levels.
