My Experience at Academia Tica
It was a really good experience. The staff were very nice and helpful, and the people staying there were always friendly. Volunteering to teach English in an elementary school was very fulfilling, and as teaching assistants, we were very involved and warmly welcomed by both the students and teachers.

The best experience of my life
My time in Costa Rica was truly an experience I will carry with me for the rest of my life. 🇨🇷🤍 I came into this trip excited to volunteer and work with children, but I left with so much more than I expected. The children completely stole my heart. Being able to spend my days working with them, learning from them, and being part of their everyday lives reminded me why working with children is something I am so passionate about. Even the little moments became memories that I know I will look back on for years to come. What made the experience even more special was the people I met along the way. I had the opportunity to meet volunteers from different backgrounds and countries, and somehow we became our own little community. Saying goodbye was genuinely one of the hardest parts because I knew I was leaving behind people and a place that had become so meaningful to me. Outside of volunteering, Costa Rica gave me the opportunity to experience so much, beautiful scenery, new foods, adventures, culture, and moments that I never could have planned for myself. There were days that felt completely surreal, and I constantly found myself thinking, “I can’t believe I’m actually here.” This trip challenged me, helped me grow, and gave me a new appreciation for stepping outside of what is comfortable and familiar. Most importantly, it reminded me that sometimes the experiences that change you the most are the ones you have to be brave enough to say yes to. I am incredibly grateful for every person I met, every child I got to work with, every adventure, every laugh, and even every goodbye. Costa Rica will always hold such a special place in my heart, and I know this is a chapter I will forever reminisce about. 🇨🇷🌿🤍 Pura vida! 🫶🏼 David was also amazing showing us around !

Muy recomendable
Estuve en la Academia Tica por poco más de dos semanas y la recomiendo mucho. Las clases estaban diseñadas de manera muy variada, con distintos métodos de aprendizaje y juegos. Cuando tenía dudas, los maestros eran muy serviciales y me ayudaban mucho. Pude mejorar notablemente mi español a pesar del poco tiempo. Por las tardes, casi todos los días había diferentes actividades que nos permitieron conocer mejor Coronado, San José y la cultura de Costa Rica. Había de todo, desde cursos de cocina, pasando por museos y jardines de mariposas, hasta fútbol. Durante mi estancia en la Academia, no me alojé en la Academia misma, sino en una familia anfitriona organizada por la Academia. No puedo más que recomendarlo, porque, por un lado, la familia fue súper amable y servicial y, por otro, te permite aprender aún más sobre el idioma y la cultura. ¡Para terminar, no me queda más que recomendarlo una vez más a todos los que aún tengan dudas!

Academia Tica Experience
Staying at Academia Tica was truly a wonderful experience. The professors are warm, engaging, and passionate. Through my short time learning Spanish, I gained a lot. The classes are small, so you get a lot of time actually speaking the language. I had professor Susana, she was wonderful. The other educators seemed amazing as well. The coordinating staff were very helpful, especially David and Elza. They will answer any questions you have about CR. The accommodation was clean and in a convenient location. 30 mins from downtown San Jose by bus. You live with others which also creates a nice sense of community. Great stay

A great stay - highly recommend Academia Tica!
I spent one week at Academia Tica in January 2026 to study Spanish. I had a great time. The group size was very small, we were only three students in my class. Therefore, we were able to practice a lot. We mostly had conversations in Spanish and I grew more and more confident. The atmosphere was very chill - pura vida ;-) - and the staff was super friendly and helpful. David organised trips to show us the neighbourhood and other great places in the vicinity. Great one month at Academia Tica !
I had an amazing time during my stay at Academia Tica. I had an amazing teacher for the week of Spanish that I did at the start and definitely left speaking better than arriving. All members of staff were friendly and helpful and were always there to lend a helping hand. The accommodation was good and offered everything you need to live well. 2 weeks at Academia Tica as a Spanish student & volunteer
Hi, I spent 2 weeks at Academia Tica in the beginning of February. I had 1 week of Spanish lessons, which I really enjoyed - classes were varied and fun :) And then I spent the 2nd week volunteering at a wildlife rescue center, which likewise was an amazing experience :) I also really enjoyed the activities and day trips planned by Academia Tica - this was a really great way to meet and connect with fellow volunteers and Spanish students, while having fun :) Everyone was very friendly - from my Spanish teacher, to the staff and coordinators on-site. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Academia Tica and I would definitely recommend this place to others - it's a great place for learning Spanish abroad or just connecting with others while traveling ;)
