{"id":859,"date":"2015-11-16T15:32:42","date_gmt":"2015-11-16T21:32:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.academiatica.com\/blog\/?p=859"},"modified":"2019-07-11T22:32:47","modified_gmt":"2019-07-12T04:32:47","slug":"locos-por-el-bosque-what-a-hike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.academiatica.com\/blog\/locos-por-el-bosque-what-a-hike\/","title":{"rendered":"Locos por el Bosque: what a hike!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rain, sweat and mud \u2013 and amazing views! \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/LocosporelBosque\/\">Locos por el Bosque<\/a>\u201d is a private biological reserve in the small town of Montserrat in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.academiatica.com\/about-coronado\">Coronado<\/a>. It is located between Braulio Carrillo National Park and Iraz\u00fa Volcano National Park. This makes it an important biological corridor for many species. This cloud forest builds an area which links the two ecosystems and thus ensures the maintenance of biodiversity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The last 15 minutes of the ride from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.academiatica.com\/\">the school<\/a> up to the little hut where we met our tour guide were quite adventurous. On the side of the road there were growing plants with big leaves, called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gunnera\">Poor Man&#8217;s Umbrella<\/a>\u201d. These ones here had a gigantic size! The \u201cstreet\u201d was so bumpy that the car was shaking but it took us safely to our destination. When we arrived at the little hut where with restrooms and fresh water, our guide Randal expected us and provided ourselves with rain ponchos, in which we looked like green dwarfs.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Caj\u00f3n River<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We started our hike with the first drops of rain. The paths where therefore muddy and slippery and I wished I had brought shoes with a higher shaft to Costa Rica (which I hadn&#8217;t because of space problems in my backpack\u2026). I only realized the mud and water soaked socks back at the apartment. When we entered the forest we were surrounded by high trees, which were overgrown with different plants and a lot of moss. There was a little waterfall, coming from between two overgrown rock faces. It was amazing to see how the waterfall came through the immense green crevice. From there, the brown river flows over big stones and disappeared again between rocks. It was such a scenic view! This meant, more gradient and paying more attention not to fall. For the heavy rain, I was totally happy about the rain poncho. One of us (the only one without a poncho), finally slipped and fell. He didn&#8217;t hurt himself, but his pants got completely dirty. A poncho would have kept him clean\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At last we came to the viewpoint of the <em>Trocha <\/em>waterfall. And the panorama was astonishing: We were surrounded by piles of green hills. I think I hadn&#8217;t seen that much green at once before. And somewhere out of this green scenery, there was a tiny looking white waterfall emerging. Actually, it wasn&#8217;t that tiny. Randal explained us it was 70 meters high. This excursion was part of the after-class activity program with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.academiatica.com\/\">Academia Tica<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Following its philosophy of involvement with the community, the school became the first sponsor of this project and that we hope will help in the conservation of plant and animal species as well as with understanding the rich biodiversity of this part of Costa Rica.<\/p>\n<h2>Read it in Spanish!<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lluvia, sudor y barro \u2013 \u00a1y vistas maravillosas! \u201cLocos por el Bosque\u201d es una reserva biol\u00f3gica ubicada en el peque\u00f1o pueblo de Montserrat de Coronado. Est\u00e1 entre el Parque Nacional Braulio Carillo y el Parque Nacional Volc\u00e1n Iraz\u00fa, y es un corredor biol\u00f3gico importante de gran variedad de especies. Este bosque nuboso constituye un \u00e1rea que conecta los dos ecosistemas y por eso asegura el mantenimiento de biodiversidad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Los \u00faltimos 15 minutos del viaje desde la escuela hasta la caba\u00f1a donde encontrar\u00edamos a nuestro gu\u00eda, Randal, fueron bastante interesantes. En el margen del camino crecen plantas con hojas grandes llamadas \u201csombrilla de pobre\u201d. \u00a1\u00c9stas eran gigantescas! La \u201ccarretera\u201d era empedrada y el carro temblaba pero nos llev\u00f3 seguros a nuestro destino. Llegamos a la caba\u00f1a donde pudimos usar el ba\u00f1o y cargar agua, nuestro gu\u00eda Randal nos esperaba. \u00c9l nos entreg\u00f3 ponchos de lluvia con los que parec\u00edamos duendes verdes.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">El Ri\u00f3 Volc\u00e1nico Caj\u00f3n<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Empezamos la caminata con las primeras gotas de lluvia. Por esto, los caminos ten\u00edan barro y estaban resbalosos. Me hubiera gustado haber tra\u00eddo zapatos de monta\u00f1a a Costa Rica (no lo hice por problemas de espacio en m\u00ed mochila\u2026). No not\u00e9 que mis medias estaban empapadas hasta que regres\u00e9 al apartamento.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Entrando el bosque est\u00e1bamos rodeados de \u00e1rboles altos que estaban cubiertos de plantas diferentes y mucho musgo. A veces, los arboles alrededor del camino crec\u00edan de manera que parec\u00eda como si estuvi\u00e9ramos entrando en una caverna.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El primer destino fue el <em>R\u00edo Volc\u00e1nico Caj\u00f3n<\/em>. Hab\u00eda una catarata peque\u00f1a que pasaba entre dos paredes de rocas cubiertas. Fue impresionante ver c\u00f3mo la catarata llegaba de la inmensa hendidura verde. Desde all\u00ed, el r\u00edo marr\u00f3n corr\u00eda sobre piedras grandes y desaparec\u00eda entre las rocas. \u00a1Una vista muy bonita!<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Catarata La Trocha<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despu\u00e9s continuamos para ver la <em>Catarata La Trocha<\/em> desde un mirador. Esto significaba m\u00e1s elevaci\u00f3n y tener cuidado para no caer. En la lluvia fuerte estaba muy feliz de tener el poncho, pues de lo contrario, me habr\u00eda mojado hasta la piel. Uno de nosotros (el \u00fanico sin poncho) finalmente resbal\u00f3 y cay\u00f3. No se lastim\u00f3, pero ensuci\u00f3 sus pantalones. Un poncho los habr\u00eda mantenido limpios\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finalmente llegamos al mirador de la <em>Catarata La Trocha<\/em>. Y el panorama fue sensacional: est\u00e1bamos rodeados de un mont\u00f3n de colinas verdes. Pienso que nunca hab\u00eda visto tanto verde al mismo tiempo. De alguna parte de este paisaje, sal\u00eda una catarata que parec\u00eda peque\u00f1a a lo lejos. Realmente, no era tan peque\u00f1a, Randal nos explic\u00f3 que ten\u00eda una altura de 70 metros. Esto nos daba una idea de lo grandes que eran las colinas de alrededor\u2026 Luego el paisaje se cubri\u00f3 en velos de niebla que hab\u00eda llegado despacio y cubierto m\u00e1s y m\u00e1s del paisaje verde.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a1Fue una caminata emocionante y me alegr\u00e9 de haber tenido la oportunidad de hacerla!
